The police are investigating the origin of an SMS claiming that black people will murder whites on Freedom Day on Tuesday, the national police chief said.
"There will be no war between black and white in South Africa," said General Bheki Cele in a statement, according to Beeld newspaper.
An SMS did the rounds at the weekend, claiming that pamphlets were being distributed in Polokwane that allegedly urged blacks to kill as many whites as possible on Tuesday, which is Freedom Day. The SMS warned people against possible attacks.
"Our intelligence services are working 24 hours a day on this case. No trace of the pamphlets have been found. The origin of the SMS will be looked into," said Cele.
