So yesterday, Gremmy took me to go see X in diepkloof prison.

I was feeling nervous, a lady came and spoke to me and gave me a few tips.
But what feared me the most was she told me I would not be able to take in my own water bottle. I spoke to a guard and he told me that it would be fine. Phew so that made me calmer, I mean never ever take away my water...lol

So as the waiting room filled with more people than a church, I sat reading posters on the wall.

Then my eyes met with a notice that went something like this:

WHAT VISITORS MAY BRING FOR INMATES:

2KG cookies
2kg apples
2kg pears

5 pieces of chicken
5 pieces of steak
( no sauce and must be cooked well )

Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Bath towel
Body soap
Deodorant ( roll on only in plastic bottle )
12 toilet paper
Plastic razor blades

Cigarettes
matches

2 Double bed sheets
1 Blanket
1 pillow

Morvite ( soft porridge )
Coffee
Sugar
Cremora
( no tea bags or loose tea )

Things to bring at own risk:

Portable TV
Portable radio
2 plate stove

Air time ( the biggest commodity )
At the bottom of this in a much smaller print it said:

All items to be in plastic see through packets, if not it will not be allowed into the area.

Also please remember if you do not have your ID book with you, you simply won't even get into the waiting room.

But to be honest and fair, all the wardens - guards where really helpful and not once did anyone make me feel uneasy.

So for the first visit things didn't go too bad in the process. The only thing is that from the first check point until you see the inmate, took almost 2 hours.

Then I finally got to see X, he kept telling me he didn't kill his dad. He looks like he has lost 30kg in less than a month, and he looks like a frightened animal.

His court date is set for the 26 January, but only for him to have a lawyer assigned to him.

Today is the court date, for X to get a lawyer.

As I understand it could take the whole day for this.
